LABOR WILL IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

April 21, 2022

An incoming Albanese Labor Government will match the Government’s commitment to establish a National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health.

This is part of and builds on our already announced commitment that we will implement the National Roadmap for Improving the Health of People with Intellectual Disability.

People with intellectual disability are dying up to 27 years earlier than people without disability, and are at least twice as likely to die from potentially avoidable causes. This needs to be addressed through a better approach to tailored medical care.

The Labor Party sees improving the lives of all those who too often are left behind as our core mission, and this extends to those who suffer inequity as a result of a disability, whether it be with respect to their treatment in the health system, or in any other part of life.

Labor is the party of Medicare and we are committed to improving the lives of Australians with intellectual disability.

Scott Morrison’s Government has continually cut Medicare and has made it harder and more expensive for Australians to see a doctor.
